BRIEF BACKGROUND SUMMARY: When a life is composed of a web of secrets and lies eventually it becomes next to impossible to digs one's self out of the hole that you've created. And since the lies in Angela's life started so very early, she has a deeper hole to try and climb out of than most. And she hates the fact that she's pulled her sons right on into it with her.
Angela started her life as a hopeful dreamer, someone who intended to change the world for the better. She was going to become a teacher and educate the next generation of history makers, work to touch the lives of so many people and help to make a true difference. But when her power manifested and the dreams started, her plans were thrown into a whirlwind. The future that she could see, a bloody future where the world was in constant war, the apocalypse that would come if something wasn't done to stop it, was far more than Angela could ever imagine, could ever endure, but no matter how much she tried to warn the people around her, she was ignored. Like Cassandra trying to warn the Trojans about their ultimate destruction, Angela was nothing more than a doomsayer when there was no sign of anything horrible to come.
Resigned to go through life being ignored and watching the future that she had foreseen come to fruition, Angela traveled from her own home to attend college and hopefully at least keep her initial dreams of becoming an English teacher. It wasn't until she met Arthur Petrelli in one of her classes, though, that she truly understood where her destiny lay. It was a true love, a strong love, and an understanding that was built up between them that eventually lead to a marriage, a family, and eventually, an assembly of individuals to try and harness their abilities to make the world a better place, to save it from itself.
Years of deception, deceit, betrayal, hatred, and misunderstandings have taken their toll on Angela, though. She lived a life that had been filled with love, raised a family with as much care and consideration as she could possibly muster, but she doesn't know where she lost all of that. It had been true once, but somewhere in all of the others things, that loved filtered away into nothingness, lost in pragmatic lies, double talk, and manipulation.
Finding out Arthur he been using her for so, so many years, that he planned to kill their eldest because of his goals, destroyed Angela's soul far more than anything that came before ever did, and after that, the manipulation and her desire to keep her power and her control over her own life increased, strengthened so much that she became blind to what she was doing by trying to orchestrate things like she was until it was too late, and she had lost the trust of both of her sons and her grandchildren completely.
One too many plans had crumbled around her, and after the destruction of Primatech and Pinehearst, after having the fact that she had become a monster shoved under her nose, she knew that trying to keep these secrets up would only end in a disaster far worse than anything she had ever foreseen before.
This had to stop. All of this.
But with their own lives in danger from the government, thinking about trying to keep all of them alive was far more important than any secrets that she might be keeping. At least until the two converged. Which they would.
She'd seen it.
